Please find time this week to share your voice in support of impeachment hearings.
I'll show you how.
"The charges are too serious to ignore. There is credible evidence that the Vice President abused the power of his office, and not only brought us into an unnecessary war but violated the civil liberties and privacy of American citizens. It is the constitutional duty of Congress to hold impeachment hearings."
US Rep. Robert Wexler

Homer Impeachment Petition Signers,

The President and Vice President claim powers not granted the executive branch by the US Constitution.*  They have abused the powers of their office.*  Many citizens ignore this really important fact.  You signed a petition calling for impeachment hearings, the course of action that holds them accountable and promises to restore our nation's fundamental principles of liberty and fairness under law.  Bravo!

Standing Saturdays at WKFL Park gathering signatures, I wondered whether you would show up to meet my personal goal of 600 impeachment signatures.  You responded with passion, common purpose and hope.  800 of us signed Homer area petitions calling for impeachment hearings!  Yes, over 800!

Homer Citizens for Impeachment will present your names to our government leaders and ask them, too, to be accountable by calling for impeachment hearings.  Our leaders -- local, state and national -- each took an oath of office to support the US Constitution.  Our founders cared enough about its fundamental principles to require that each elected official pledge his and her support of the US Constitution.

Since November, Homer citizens for impeachment have been speaking at each Homer City Council meeting about the abuses of power by Vice President Cheney and President Bush, the need for Congress to hold impeachment hearings and the importance of each American standing up to say so.  We asked the Council to put a resolution requesting that Congress hold hearings on the impeachment of the President and Vice President on their agenda, and to pass the resolution.  Council members Dennis Novak and Matt Shadle agree to sponsor a resolution supporting Congressional impeachment hearings on the Council agenda for Monday, February 25.  Council members Francie Roberts and Lane Chesley have expressed support for Congressional impeachment hearings, and concern that it might be divisive for the City Council to pass a resolution supporting impeachment hearings.

Impeachment hearings should not be partisan, but rather based on credible evidence that our leaders abused their powers and violated fundamental laws.* *  The charges are far too serious to ignore.

Here is where you make the difference.  At least four of six Council members want to know that Homer can come together to ask that Congress hold hearings on the "charges too serious to ignore."  Please communicate your support for an impeachment hearings resolution from Homer.  Here's how:

  4. Prepare personal comments in support of a Council resolution supporting a Congressional inquiry -- impeachment hearings into the "charges too serious to ignore" that President Bush and Vice President Cheney abused the powers of their offices in substantial violation of fundamental constitutional and statutory laws.

If you plan to speak at the Council meeting:
    • comments are strictly limited to three minutes
    • 3 minutes is not very long
    • (others can do the educating if you don't have time to prepare to talk about why impeachment is necessary; plan to tell the Council that you want them to support a resolution in support of an impeachment resolution)
    • walk up to the speaker's table and sign in while someone else is speaking
    • you will be "on the clock"; begin by stating your name and, if you are a Homer resident or own a business in Homer, say so
    • move right along to state your comments in support of an impeachment resolution

  5. Mail your comments  with your name and contact info to Homer Citizens for Impeachment by February 18.  We will submit them for inclusion in the Council's Feb 25 meeting package.  Mail to:  Homer Citizens for Impeachment, PO Box 3429, Homer, AK  99603, or fax to 636-648-9919 (fax2email) to include your comments.

  6. Mark your calendar.  Plan to attend the Feb 25 Homer City Council meeting at 7pm, either to speak to the Council on this issue or in support of those choosing to speak.

  7. Please let me know if you are willing to speak at the Feb 25 Council meeting!

  8. Want to write and/or speak but don't have enough time to prepare?  Let me know and I will provide talking points for you to work with.  Click one of the links above for ideas.

  9. Forward this message to like-minded friends and neighbors.  Ask them to express their support to Homer Council members of an impeachment inquiry resolution, and attend the Feb 25 Council meeting at 7pm.  Follow up with them.  Ask them to car pool with you.  They can download, print and sign a Homer impeachment petition here.  Mail it to the address at the bottom, or fax to 636-648-9919 .

  10. When you see a Council member around town, let them know you support a resolution that encourages an impeachment inquiryThe charges are too serious to ignore.

  11. Out of town?  Please don't forget Homer, and communicate your support for a resolution that encourages an impeachment inquiry.

* Not sure?  This administration has abused executive powers and violated fundamental laws more than any in our nation's history.  The costs in dollars, leadership, and lives lost and damaged are staggering, and will adversely affect each and every one of us for generations.  Watch Bill Moyers Journal's "Tough Talk on Impeachment" (click Watch Video) and Frontline's "Cheney's Law" online.
